Introduction
Thanks to platforms like TikTok and Instagram, voiceover videos have become increasingly popular (especially AI voiceovers)!
So, it’s unsurprising that more and more companies are using voiceover videos to showcase their brands while keeping up with modern trends.
But that begs the question: who should do it?
AI Voiceovers
It’s no surprise that more and more businesses are turning to AI voiceovers.
They’re cost-effective, flexible, and fast to create.
Ironically, if you think that sounds too good to be true, you’d be right because the glaring issue with AI voiceovers is how they sound.
Most people can recognise AI voices immediately; some consider them eerie and off-putting. If you’re trying to build brand trust, a fake voice probably isn’t the best place to start.
Someone In House (CEO, Owner, etc.)
Another very popular option.
It’s cheaper than AI and excellent for showing off the people behind your brand, but it’s still flawed.
While we love this approach and would choose it over AI voiceovers every day of the week, the voiceover quality depends entirely on the person doing it.
Too often, these types of voiceover videos are ruined by speakers who simply lack experience doing voiceovers.
There’s a reason people make an entire living from voiceover work: It’s difficult.

Voiceover Professional
Voiceover professionals are the best option regarding voiceover quality.
There’s a reason why big brands almost exclusively work with voiceover professionals, and it’s because the quality is unmatched, and they can afford it.
Voiceover professionals can be expensive, so most SMEs opt for one of the previous options.
Conclusion
So, with all that in mind, here is how we would approach voiceovers:
If you can afford it, choose a professional voiceover artist almost always.
Choosing someone in-house is the second-best option if you cannot afford a professional.
If no one in-house feels comfortable with voiceover work, turn to AI.
It is worth noting that some video types lend themselves to different types of voiceover work (e.g., brand videos with a voiceover from the CEO), but, at face value, regardless of video type, this is typically the best approach.
With that decision out of the way, let’s move on to solving another. Is it better to hire a videographer or to rent equipment and film everything yourself? Luckily for you, we have a guide for that.
