How to Find the Best Video Production Company for You?

People smiling on set because they're working with a fun video production company

Introduction

Finding a video production company that can execute your vision is essential for producing high-quality content for your video marketing strategy. The dream is to find someone who “just gets it”; however, that is much easier said than done.

There are two angles to consider when looking for the perfect video company. The first angle involves critically analysing a video production company to decide whether they are a good match. The second angle is to look at your own business and if you’re being realistic with your choice.

Angle One: The Video Production Company

Tip One: Look at their Portfolio

Do they have videos similar to what you’re looking to create? If the answer is yes, there’s a good chance that they can understand and execute your vision.

Just because they haven’t got videos similar to what you’re looking to produce, it doesn’t mean they can’t do it, especially if your idea is niche and unique.

That being said, it’s always reassuring to see they have produced similar videos before.

Tip Two: Have they Worked in Your Industry?

While not entirely necessary, especially if your vision involves video types that are not typical for your industry, it is certainly worth looking into.

Previous experience in your industry often guarantees that the person understands the associated problems and solutions.

Since you pay for their expertise, time, and skill, a video production company with previous experience in your industry is best placed to make educated recommendations.

Tip Three: Look at their Reviews and Testimonials

If people consistently celebrate a videographer’s ability to bring someone’s vision to reality, then there’s a good chance they can do the same for you—and, of course, the opposite is also true.

If you tie this together with the previous two tips, you’d do well to try and find video production companies with testimonials from other companies in similar industries and with similar video requirements.

Angle Two: Look at Your Own Business

Now, it’s important to remember that regardless of how good your vision is, understanding certain limitations is important—this is where looking at this from the viewpoint of the videographer comes in.

While fantastic at their craft, videographers are still human, and not everything is possible.

Your Budget

Grand ideas are great, and great videographers can (and will) produce fantastic videos regardless of the budget. Still, you must be realistic about what can be achieved, especially on smaller budgets.

The more elaborate the vision, the more expensive it’ll cost to make (usually). So be realistic about what can be achieved, and work with your videographer to achieve the best results.

If you don’t have a massive budget for video marketing, it might be better to rent equipment and film everything in-house. Either way, check out our guide, which breaks down the pros and cons of renting equipment vs. hiring a professional videographer.

Articulate Your Vision

While you might have grand ideas, articulating them effectively is vital. It’s nice to have great ideas, but if you cannot explain what you want, don’t expect a videographer to be able to read your mind.

While it’s not completely necessary to have planned everything before speaking to a video production company, make sure you can clearly articulate what you do have.

A good way to do this is by finding videos or images similar to what you want, so the video company can use them as a reference.

Have Patience!

Even if you have the budget and can articulate your ideas clearly, it may take a few attempts to get the desired results.

The first draft is rarely perfect, so ensure you and your videographer have allocated enough budget and editing time to cover revisions.

Conclusion

Finding the right video production company can do wonders for your video marketing strategies.

This can be a very slow process, but the benefits of taking your time and getting it right are numerous.

This is especially true since finding the right company the first time can save you a lot of money and time in the future.
