How to Get Started with Video Marketing

If you’ve never worked with video before, it can be very difficult to know where to start, especially if you plan on doing everything in-house.

But… if you’re doing it all in-house, it can seem extremely daunting.

Here are three steps to help you make video marketing feel less overwhelming.

Tip One: Start Easy

It’s natural to look at high-production videos and dream of recreating them, but if you’re doing everything for the first time, being overly ambitious could put you off starting.

TikTok and Instagram-style videos are a much better place to start. 

Videos filmed with a smartphone and a tripod are much easier to replicate than high-budget productions.

They have significantly lower skill requirements and give you plenty of practice with staging, filming, editing, etc.

Tip Two: Keep It Short

Like the last point, creating short videos (60 seconds max.) is much easier than creating long videos. 

In addition, plenty of evidence suggests that short-format videos are better for awareness campaigns because they require less commitment from viewers. 

While it might sound more exciting to try and emulate your favourite directors and produce epic movies for your business, this is often complete overkill and should be avoided.

Tip Three: Book Content & Editing Days

Another common barrier is finding the time to dedicate to creating video content, often because people try to film one video at a time. 

A much better approach is to schedule content and editing days in advance so you can spend time creating multiple videos. 

This approach makes it much easier to plan and schedule content.

Bonus: Use Your Notes App!

If you’re struggling with video ideas, don’t force yourself to come up with something. Instead, create a page in your notes to keep track of ideas as they come to you.

This approach can significantly reduce the time spent brainstorming interesting video ideas.
